Suspect In Custody After DNA Match to Evidence from 1974 Murder of 13-Year-Old Girl

In what is believed to be the oldest cold case solved by Oakland police, a DNA match has led to special circumstance murder charges being filed against 63-year-old ex-convict Curtis J. Tucker in the fatal beating and sexual molestation of a 13-year-old East Oakland girl in August 1974, authorities said Tuesday.

A T-shirt Julie was wearing had semen stains on it, which were analyzed for DNA. Tucker’s DNA was on file because of a January 1978 rape arrest in Spokane, Washington.

Blood Evidence DNA Leads To Two Arrests in Novato CA Medical Marijuana Break-In

A Novato woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with a four-month-old burglary investigation involving the former pot club in Fairfax, police said. Chloe Maureen Ross, 28, was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of burglary and violating probation

Last week, Cody Michael Ring, 21, of Fairfax was booked after DNA evidence linked him to the crime, police said.

The burglar apparently cut himself while breaking into the register, and police collected the blood evidence for analysis.

Analysis Feb 2010 Rape Kit Evidence Matches Original Suspect, Now Under Arrest

A Kenner man has been booked with simple rape after his saliva connected him to a 2010 incident with a 16-year-old girl, police said. Jesus Tabora Morales, 40, was arrested Tuesday at his home at 2921 Roosevelt Blvd. at 5:50 a.m., according to a Kenner Police Department report.

On May 19, 2010 she identified Tabora Morales in a photographic lineup as the person who raped her, the report said.

The next day, a search warrant was obtained for Tabora Morales’ saliva and a sample was submitted to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office DNA lab for comparison to the victim’s rape kit, the report said.

The time lag between that warrant and Tabora Morales’ arrest was due to the wait for the DNA results from the crime lab, said Lt. Wayne McInnis, Kenner Police Department spokesman.

New DNA Evidence Technology Uncovers Two Suspects in 1986 Long Beach, CA Murder Case

Advanced DNA testing allowed the Long Beach Police Department to identify two suspects in a murder case from more than a quarter century ago.

Evidence was presented to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Scientific Services Bureau for DNA testing and a profile was identified, giving new life to an investigation where all leads had been exhausted.

With a new scientific lead, the LBPD Cold Case Homicide Unit identified two suspects who they believe are responsible for Green’s robbery and murder.

DNA Test of 1977 Columbus GA Rape Evidence Does Not Support "Stocking Strangler" Conviction

DNA tests have once again cast doubt on a key aspect of the case against Carlton Gary, the so-called Columbus “Stocking Strangler” who was convicted in one of the most notorious serial rape cases in Georgia history.

This time, DNA tests of sperm found on the gown of the only eyewitness to identify Gary as her attacker found that the sperm did not come from him. The witness, Gertrude Miller, who is now deceased, testified she was awakened in her bedroom and Gary struck her with a board before raping her.

DNA Analysis of 118 Michigan State Prisoners Turns Up New Suspects for 74 Unsolved Crimes

The DNA sweep began with a warrant authorized by Muskegon County Prosecutor Tony Tague in March 2011, allowing Michigan State Police to take cheek swabs from 118 prisoners, sometimes by force.

The issue got publicity statewide, leading to a bill signed by Gov. Rick Snyder requiring the Department of Corrections to collect DNA samples from all inmates by Jan. 1.

Jury Finds Former LAPD Detective Stephanie Lazarus Guilty of Murdering of Her Ex-Boyfriend's Wife

Police initially believed that robbers had committed the crime. After they re-opened the case, DNA testing from a bite mark swabbed from the victim led them in 2009 to Lazarus, who was working as a detective in LAPD’s downtown-based art-theft unit.

DNA On Air Bag ID's Surviving Driver of Fatal Crash — Timothy Lesko Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Homicide

A western Pennsylvania man who was charged in a fatal crash after his DNA was found on the car’s air bags has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide. Twenty-four-year-old Timothy Lesko faces at least two years in prison as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors that ended his trial Monday. Lesko claimed another man was behind the wheel at the time of the September 2009 crash that killed 24-year-old Jessica Trail. But DNA evidence recovered from inside the car indicated Lesko was the driver.
